Round 3 - Rally of Canterbury
This Sunday I will be competing at Rally Canterbury, its the third round of the Brian Green Properties NZ Rally Championship. Its a welcome return to the technical forestry stages in the south island and night time rallying.
Canterbury rally has been a favourite event of mine. The stages are very enjoyable and leave little room for mistakes. This year new stages and sections of the Ashley Forestry have been added to the route this is fantastic decision by the organisers to include new stages it highlights the importance of a good recce and commitment by the team to maximise the new stages and have a good set of notes instead of memorising sections of road from previous years.
The inclusion of night time stages is becoming a great spectacle of Rally Canterbury, 2 stages will be run in complete darkness its always a cool feeling blasting threw the forestry spitting flames and driving 100%. Hella Lights this year will help turn night into day on these stages and I’m really looking forward to seeing these lights perform at full speed.
Rally Canterbury last year was a turning point in my season last year and helped me kick start a good run of event results which has continued into 2018. Id like to keep up the current momentum I have an will be aiming to score a podium result and good bonus points in the power stage.
In-between events the Gearbox and Diffs have been out of the car to have a full check up and rebuild to keep them in top working condition for the tricky event ahead. Snow, Rain and slippery ground conditions are usually big factors at Canterbury rally. Having the preloads exactly set gives our Subaru a real advantage in these conditions with Active differentials and Subarus Symmetrical AWD system getting grip and power down is never an issue.
The event starts from Joes Garage at 9am on Sunday, we cover 160 km of forestry special stages before the ceremonial finish in ChCh at apex 7pm.
